While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

After literally months of either bad weather or work committments which
torpedoed the two or three usable days available, Mother Nature was very
kind and sent an unusually cold, dry and stable airmass into the Illinois
area. So, without any hesitation, I loaded up the gear and hit the
interstate. I was hoping to reshoot M51 but local winds forced me to seek
shelter and blocked that part of the sky. But, given the extreme air
clarity, the obvious thing to do was shoot southern Milkyway objects which
would otherwise be swimming in skyglow and general haze. The following two
are negatives I've finished scanning; there are a couple more to come later
(M4 and Mercury if the latter scans ok). Anyway,

M80 - turned out ok, kind of a neat triangular field of stars

and the star attraction,
M20 - I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of this stuff.

The 2nd exposure should also have been 60 minutes but I ran out of dark.

Mike
