While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Gabe: I am a member of the ALPO Solar Section so have some experience =
in solar observing and photography. I use a solar filter of 4" diameter =
over the front of my 12.5" reflector. During the daytime, seeing =
conditions rarely allow one to see details as small as 1 arc second. A =
4" aperture will, in theory, resolve to 1 arc second.

The cost for a smaller filter is obviously less, another factor to =
consider.
