We have a 16" LX-200 that is sick. It blew the 1.5A powersupply cord fuse,
we think due to cord strangling causing the RA motor to stall.
We have replaced the fuse, but now the scope does not seem to slew as
quickly in RA, and it sometimes gets "stuck", showing about 90% on the
power consumption led bar graph. A slight nudge of the fork arm in either
direction usually "unsticks" it, and then power consumption drops
substantially. There also is some "stuttering" or "chattering" at find and
centre speeds, and sometimes it does not move at all.
Any ideas?
I suspect that the worm gear assy has been pushed back out of the worm
wheel teeth. We had a look at a few things tonight, and the belts and teeth
from the DC motor to the worm seem fine, and dont appear to be slipping.
The spring that pushes the worm/motor assy does not seem to be very strong.
Also, everything has lots of that disgusting black grease on it, so it is
hard to "feel" what is going on.
Has anyone had experience with this kind of thing before?
Thanks in advance,
Colin
