Bill,
My pier is separate from the building supports (cemented posts). On the
North end of the building there isn't a huge distance between the posts
and the pier mass - the center of the pier is 4' from the North wall of
the building. The pier mass is 3' diameter X 3' deep.
I can have someone jump up and down inside the building while I view
with high power and see NO vibration transferred to the 'scope.
This is my own experience keeping them separate. I can't say in the
connected configuration, but I'm very pleased with the way mine is
working.
