Hello, I am using a 10" LX200 with 416xt CCD camera, a lap top to
control the camera and telescope (scsi and dual serial port connections)
and the Kendrick Dew system. To supply remote power I use a Marine deep
cycle battery (from Exide by the way) - 160mins. reserve capacity
(equivalent to 96AH capacity) and a 300w 12v-110v inverter. The Inverter
cost $44, the battery $47, about $10 for the various cables needed. When
fully loaded the total combination takes c. 10A- more than half of which
goes to the laptop. This means that The battery is JUST sufficient for a
nights viewing.
You can use the AC adapter supplied with the LX200, or buy the 12-18v
converter from Meade to drive the telescope (c.$90 I think)
The charger for the battery is a 10-15A one that I use for my cars, and
you also need a voltmeter (and/or hygrometer) to check the battery
charging. This charges the battery overnight (or overday if you wish).
Total cost c. $40.
So, this combo supplies 3 times the capacity for 1/2-1/3 the cost, and
with the Kendrick you would have the problem of dealing with the laptop,
if you want to go that way at any time.
regards,
Wyn Palmer
