While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Herb Reiher Wrote
Snip : "turned scope on and it immediately and inexplicably began
continuously rotating about the declination axis".

A few of us have seen this before and there are many possible causes. When
my 10 inch suddenly did it one day (note that it worked before) I searched
MAPUG and discovered someone (sorry can not remember who) who had solved the
problem by fixing and replacing the DEC motor curly cable. Unbelievably it
worked for me. The other guy had returned his scope before the solution was
found.

So try this first, if it does not work then you should contact your dealer:-
If you have a multimeter check each of the wires on the DEC cable to see if
the current is flowing through each and every one. If you do not have a
multimeter ask your dealer to help, but suggest the DEC cable test to him
first as it could be the most simple and least costly solution for all
involved.
