While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

This has been discussed a number of times here, and I think you can find
these discussions in the archives.

I do a zero-star alignment:

1. Make sure your finder scope is aligned with the scope.

2. Make sure your time and site location are very accurate.

3. Align the scope due south.

4. Level the scope as carefully as possible.

5. Precisely zero out the Dec and RA.

6. Goto Venus or the moon (1 or the other, or both, is usually visible).

7. Look through the finder scope -- if you did steps 1 through 5
accurately, the target should be visible, and you should be able to find it
in or near the eyepiece FOV.

8. Center the target in the eyepiece.

9. Press and hold the Enter button. You have now completed a 1-star
alignment. Now Goto any other bright object (Moon, Venus, Jupiter, Sirius,
Vega, etc.) and sync again.
