While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Joe, if the supply is regulated there should be no problem, but if the
regulator is bad, YES? Knowing Radio Shack, yes is a possible. But if it
looks like its working after camera is powered up, then just power up
both 416 and 201 before the computer. The camera can be on as long as
you want unconnected, as its only in the stand-by mode. So then power up
the computer after. But to be safe, if you can get a digital multi
meter, (DMM), or even an older analog volt meter, I would check the
output voltage on the power supply with camera off and on, and also if
you can, put a DC amp meter in series with the + 12 VDC and see how much
current the 2 are drawing? Also check to rating again. If it say's 3
amps PEAK, no good! It must be 3 amps continuos. # amps peak may only be
a 1 amp continuos regulator. The 416 alone will pull up to 2 amps, and I
forget the 201, but you maybe killing the regulator for a short time, as
when anything is powered up there is most always a quick surge of
current draw then it settles down. These ratings can be confusing, as
companies like RS don't always give you the proper true rating. Like
stereo company of a hokky name brand say there system is 500 watts out
put. BS. maybe peak, but true RMS power may only be 30 watts RMS, see,
the same thing. Pioneer back in the early 80's got nailed by the FTC for
saying they sold there 180 watt wolfers, when they we really rated at 20
watts RMS, so watch out the same may be true on the current rating?
