John!
The main reason I posted this article was because another Chicago
Mapug group member complained about being able to read his newspaper in
his backyard because of the light pollution.
I guess Ed Stewart, Tom Wideman and Jay Reynolds' comments about the
Buick commercial, are acceptable topics for this group, right??
I was under the impression that the purpose of this group was to
help one another with technical problems that arise with the use of our
Meade equipment. Unless I am missing something, the newspaper article
about this Chicago light issue is a major problem for myself and all us
Chicago and midwestern group members.
I will concede that I should not have posted the complete article.(
most of it is of no concern or problem). It's the holiday season, after
all.
I should have opened with "We need help from all you midwest (
within 150 miles of Chicago) Mapugers for a little Email campaign."
But, the big problem is Mayor Daley's plans to light the facade of the
downtown high-rises with high- power floodlights all year.

As far as your comment,
"...just providing personal commentary, regurgitation of a copyrighted
news story presumably without permission, and an activist appeal to our
members."
The author was clearly accredited at the start of the article, and
"Email this story to a friend" was stated in the last sentence.

See for yourself.

Maybe you did not read the whole article, or perhaps you could not see,
with your elitist nose up in the air!

As a newbe to astronomy (3 years ) and a large credit card debt to pay
for a 12" LX200, I do not think this qualifies me as an activist. If it
does, then I picked the wrong hobby.
I thought amateur astronomers should stick together, but I am
getting the impression that this group has a pecking order, just like
the "I am better then you" rivalry between amateurs and professionals.

I have learned a lot from this group over the last 2-l/2 years, and
hope some of my limited experiences and contributions have also helped
others.

John, I think you have a real problem with an inflated ego. If my post
bothered you that much, you could have E-mailed me in private, but
instead you chose to play your hand in public condemnation and
humiliation. Thank you!

Bet you don't have the guts to post this in public!

Seasons Greetings,
Keith Johnson
Chicago IL
