Hi Wayne,
My first exposure to SCT's was about 4 years ago when I purchased a new 8"
LX50. Shortly thereafter, I added a Magellan...this scope was perfect! It
gave me the portability that I always needed and at the same time offered
respectable aperture...I would keep this scope for many years, I thought.
About 2 months later, I attended a star party and set up my LX50 in between
2 LX200 owners. There was an 8" on my left and a 10" on my right. I barely
used the LX50 that night...I was converted.
Within 2 weeks, I had sold my 50 and ordered a new 10" LX200. I have bought
and sold many scopes since then (about 15) but I still own the 10" LX200 and
probably will for a long time to come. Here's what you get with a 200 that
you don't get with a 50: (BTW, the difference in price over the 50 with
Magellan is only $600)
Automatic GoTo. More sophisticated electronics with PEC. Viewing in Alt/Az
mode. Larger object database. Upgraded view finder. All of this,
particularly the electronics, will become more important to you when you get
your CCD and start imaging.
