My quick 0.02: Erase it & train it, never update it. While training,
do NOT stab the E/W keys wildly as recommended by some. Use a 9mm
lighted reticle eyepiece and defocus the star till it just fills the
ring.
Prior to PEC training, listen to Enya music or knock back 1-2 shots of
your favorite "stuff". Wait till it takes effect. Don't over-do the
stuff, you need clear vision. Now that you're relaxed(!), start the
PEC training session.
When the time comes (coundown to 0, beep), look into the eyepiece and
watch the defocused star. When it starts to drift out, press the
appropriate key once. WAIT FOR A FEW SEC. Then make another correction
if needed. DON'T CORRECT MORE THAN ONCE EVERY 5 SEC. THIS IS CRITICAL
TO SUCCESS.
I can take 5 min unguided exposures with my portable scope after a 10
min ACP-assisted polar alignment. I retrain the PEC every 6 months or
so. It's an absolutely stock unmodified untweaked uneverything'ed 8"
f/10. Fabulous instrument!
