Hi Eric,
There was a lot of talking about this topic on the SBIG list on the
past week. I read most of them and my conclusion is this:
If you are using a SCT you will need the off-axis guider. These SCT's
have a mirror shift in long exposures that a guidscope can't correct.
In addition, an ETX guidscope will have its own mirror shift and it
would not be a good solution.
I think that a guidscope is only good for tracking comets or
asteroids. If you need it only for deep sky, I think you should go for
an off axis guider.
