While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
The 4500 is not an advanced product but the $10 purchase price is
interesting.

Hi,
I have come out of lurkdom because for Christmas I received a Meade 4500
telescope. Let me just say that this instrument is way beyond my skill and
maybe even interest in star-gazing, but my sister actually got it used at a
garage sale for $10 (no, I am not making this up-it is true). She knows of
my passion for looking up at the sky and picking out planets and so on, so
when she saw this she knew it was a good gift for me (also, I dislike it
when people spend wads of money on stuff for me).
Only problem is that I don't have the slightest idea how the heck to use it
( no instructions), and the Meade website is down.
Anyone have any suggestions, hints, clues, advice, tips?
Please email me privately as I don't wish to burden the list with something
that is WAY below the level of expertise here. I am fascinated by the
postings on this list, but don't have the time to bring myself to such an
advanced level, but I would like to set this telescope up so I can take my
casual glimpses of other worlds. Between the clouds and light pollution
here, I wonder if I shall ever see another constellation!
Thanks & Happy, Healthy, Peaceful New Year's to All,
Marion
