Hi Chuck:
I read somewhere that the standard laser procedure corrects only the central
5 mm of the cornea. Since dark adaptation includes maximum pupil dilation, a
younger person may actually use 7 mm or a bit more when fully dilated.
Bottom line: if your pupils are capable of dilating much beyond 5 mm, you
might have problems after the laser correction, so discuss your astronomy
habit with your ophthalmologist before you have the procedure.
