While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

I am appealing to MAPUG members for help with a stubborn ongoing
problem with our 18v battery packs. For some time now we have been
manufacturing a battery with a built in 18v inverter for LX200
owners. We have had a number of problems with them, which we have
overcome but we are unable to figure out one of the problems.

For some reason, owners of the packs have been experiencing trouble
with North South slewing (the speed is slow, weak or variable) and
seems to be less of a problem with East West (but is still a bit of a
problem none the less). The inverters seem to be working well and are
putting out very close to 18v.

I have suspected the coiled power cord we are using but this seems in
doubt now as the problem continues with replacement power cords. The
cords when fully extended are 15' long so voltage drop across the
wire seems out of the picture.

We had some problem with a component on the circuit board burning out
but that was taken care of when we replaced the "coil" with larger
version so that it could handle more amperage.

If the LX200 is run from the battery using a Meade 1218 inverter,
everything seems fine. I cannot figure this out??

Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Thank you,
Jim
