While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

I am a novice with telescopes and have a couple of questions. I received my
8" LX200 tonight and proceeded to set it up and get a quick look before the
clouds rolled in. The scope needs collimation which shouldn't be a problem.

What bugs me is that there is an image shift right at the point of focus.
On either side of focus there is no image shift when continuing to defocus.
But right at the point where it should be coming into optimal focus the
image jumps. It makes it a somewhat difficult to fine tune the focus.

Is this artifact a function of the scope needing collimation?

Thanks for the help,
Bryan
