I've had the 12" for about 4 years and am very pleased with it for my
uses. It is permanently mounted and the optics are very good. With some
care and time the above noted deficiencies can be accomodated to.
I second the suggestion to look at Thierry Legault's web page. He is
one of my heros for high resolution imaging. I also was able to image
the Encke gap in Saturn's rings in October with the 12" and a 416XT
camera so it can be done with these instruments even by an amateur
amateur.
You might want to spend time with any of the larger scopes if you can
before making your choice. Good Luck
