Hello Milan,
The LX50 series has indeed been dropped and the US prices for the LX200
family have been reduced substantially. For any kind of astrophoto, you
are certainly much better off with the 10" LX200, but do not overlook
the 8" version for portability ! Are you by any chance located in Sweden
? If so, I think you should politely remind the Swedish importer that
prices in other EU countries are significantly lower, and that cheap
airline tickets to many European capitals are readily available.
In case of a major investment like this, I can't see anything preventing
you from contacting another European dealer and make some arrangements
with a suitable airline company to bring the scope back to Sweden
safely. Some people have pointed out that support and warranty repair
might be an issue, but Meade and Celestron seems to be equally slow in
handling support matters for the majority overseas customers. There may
be additional shipping costs involved when buying from a different EU
country, but they are not significant for small spare parts.
