While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Bill, I believe that one of the mother boards that I lost in the LX200 was because of heat. It was at the Grand Canyon Star Party and we were set up during the day and it was hot. Even though my unit was on both the wedge and the tripod every thing had been in the Sun heating up. In effect I really didn't have a heat sink to speak of and I personally believe that heat was the cause of my board failure. The design is better now with larger resistors than the original boards had but I would still be concerned about heat. You probably would only be running at night so the cooler air might be enough to keep the smaller surface area in limits.

Cliff

I put a piece of Sorbothane between my LX200 and my steel pier. It helps
quite a bit with vibration. But I'm wondering if it will cause the LX200's
electronics to heat up. The bottom plate of the LX200 functions as a heat
sink. Will insulating it from the pier with the sorbothane allow it to heat
up too much?
