That is, the power panel should be on the north side of the tripod so that
if you're standing on the north side of the tripod looking at the power
panel then you're looking south.

Polaris works just fine as an alignment star. But you may have to slew 359
degrees to get to something nearby. The LX200 won't slew thru the meridian
line connecting the north pole to the horizon.
