[M]: Getting closer: focal reducers

Subject:[M]: Getting closer: focal reducers

Ok now. I have definitely decided to go with the 10" LX200. Ive had too
many cons about the 12" (mainly the size and weight factors) that it doesnt
seem like the right scope for me.

As for which 10" I will get (f/10 or f/6.3), I still dont know. Ive had
many people recommend the f/6.3 and I am leaning toward this particular
model. I just have a few questions about focal reducers before I make my
final decision.

Obviously, whenever some optical "correction" device is placed on the
telescope, some image quality is lost, even if it does improve the scopes
performance overall. My question is this:

If I get the f/6.3, will I be able to use either or both of the f/6.3 and
f/3.3 focal reducers (will I even want to? Is there any gain other than
faster imaging time?)? Is this feasible with the f/6.3 and is the image
quality still good? Or am I loosing a lot of image quality when I use the
reducers on the f/6.3 and should just stick with the f/6.3 I get?

Or what if I get the f/10? Will the image quality be better when I use the
focal reducers on the f/10 than if I used them on the f/6.3? Would I rather
have the f/10 and interchange between the f/6.3 and f/3.3 focal reducers to
give me a wider range of viewing area? Or does this even matter with most
deep sky objects?

Im trying to make the best decision that will allow be the best possible
images now, while still allowing for some changes in the future if it looks
like I need them.

Thanks a lot everyone! Im slowly but surely getting there. For those of you
who are following my "LX200 thread" and would like to be prepared for my
next question....where is the best place to buy the LX200? I know there used
to be a place that checked out the scope for you and made sure everything
was fine before they shipped it, but I dont know if its still in existence
today or not. If that place is no longer in existence, what place would I be
most likely to get my 10" LX200 (either the f/10 or f/6.3) in stock (or the
best service or anything other pluses). Id like to have enough experience
with the scope that I can get some good pictures of comet LINEAR when it
gets close. Ive always dealt with Oceanside Photo and Telescope in CA. They
have always been good to me and I will probably get it there unless anyone
has a better place for me to get it from.

Thanks again!
