While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

A network cross-over cable doesn't work. After checking the colours on the
cable, the correct cable is the opposite of each other on each end. 1
becomes 8, 2 ->7, 3->6 and so on...

Hi

No. A network crossover cable will NOT work in this case.
It is only concerned with 4 wires to be twisted.

As was said by Kristopher Kortright .... 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5 5-4. 7-3, 8-1.

All CAT-5 wire is not the same. Some is more flexable then others,
you can have solid or stranded wire. If you use wire that is not
flexable then soon you will have the same problem that it sounds like
you are having now.

I hope this helps
Gene
