While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

I have been using Pictorview 7.11 and 6.45 for a short while to capture
images using my Pictor 216XT. Although I have had reasonable success
capturing images, processing them is another matter. I find the
Pictorview applications far too buggy to use them for image combination
or processing of any kind, hence end up with very poor results. I also
have Adobe Photoshop, but have not been able to get it to add images,
nor have I been able to do much with those single frames I have taken.

Can someone suggest a good, reliable program which would make combining
these images easier, and perhaps have some built-in processing
functionality so that I may actually produce something satisfying? I
took 20 30sec images of M81 last night that I think could be promising,
if only I could combine them and process them properly.

If you'd like to have a look at the raw .FTS files, they can be found
at,

along with my other astro pics at www.virtual-insanity.com.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
