While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
Hi all.
I'm counterbalancing a new guidescope setup on my 10" LX50 and
I thought I'd heard that it's a good idea to leave some offset
in the balance to slightly load the worm drive to keep it smoothly
engaged. I've never thought this through so hopefully you can
clarify. If I put more weight on one side then as I swing of
say east there would be a load in one direction (either east
or west) but it would seem if I swing the ota west the load would
reverse directions. Is this ok and what is meant by leaving
a load on the RA or am I needing to somehow load the ota only
in one direction or am I missing the point about keeping a load
on the gear?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Steve Lindsey
