While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

As far as astronomy equipment goes 16k is peanuts - actually less than
that, it's the dust left in the bottom of the peanut bag.

The super basic stripped down 16" telescope from DFM is 75k.

Stuff from TORUS will cost you lots more.

Since you don't set this stuff up in the field - a dome will cost you
10k to 300k depending on size and maker.

A mid ranged apogee CCD is around 30k.

Want a "REAL GOOD" telescope - you can have a complete 1 meter turn-key
robotic observatory from SciTech for a mere 779k plus delivery and
installation.

Puts things in perspective huh? Even with all of the little nagging
problems of the Meade lx200 - it's quite amazing what you get for your
money.
