While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

When I was deciding on which LX200 I went through similar things. I was trying to decide between the 10" and the 12" and eventually choose the 10 and have never been sorry. The 10 is big enough to give fairly good light gathering ability but small enough to move around to star parties. Unlike the 12" it will swing through the forks and is easier to put in a case.

There have been even been a few times I wished mine were an 8" because it is still a lot to move about and setup. If you are going to travel with your scope much you might decide the 8 is better for you needs but if you will only travel occasionally you might tolerate the additional weight and size in order to get a bit more light gathering ability. Most people I know who have 12" LX200's end up keeping them installed on a pier at home because they soon got tired of moving them for star parties.

For me the 10" is a good compromise choice most of the time.

Cliff
