While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
Good evening,
For the past 14 years I have been dabbling in astronomy off and
on during the winter months. I now have an LX200. In the past I was using
a 4.5 " reflector and piggy backing a camera. No problems at all even
with spotlight shining down on my house from a neighbor. Now that I have
something substantial I am at a loss as to what is required to get some
decent images of the moon using a very basic CCD camera - an ST-4. The
LX200 has a f stop of 6.3 which I thought was best for a wider angle. My
dilemna or lack of experience/knowledge kicks in now. I am confused how
to actually get a focused image from the CCD camera and if it is even
possible using only the equipment I mentioned so far. It is not apparent
to me if the image at prime focus even comes close to falling onto the CCD
chip. I only get completely blurred or saturated images at best even
using filters to reduce the intensity. Do I need an extension tube or a
focal reducer to make this senario work? Is eyepiece projection possible?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
After months of rain & cloudy nights, sitting in frustration under
a full moon,
Thank You,
Keith
