While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
Hi all fellow LX owners,
One of my winter projects is to hobb out a couple bull gears and worms for
the LX.
As of now I have not done a tear down to spec out gears or drive system.
Does any one have all the specs.?
Doc you said you purchased a drive unit with worm, bearings, mounted, with
drive motor?, looking to do the same for study.
This would enable me to do a redesign and or modification for optimum
performance.
I have the capability to make two or two hundred, at a cost a lot less than
others.
Knowing the specs. Will allow me to move up the project, and if other LX
owners are interested will price out based on small volume.
I'm talking about hobbed brass bull gears with ground stainless worms lapped!
Many of the parts we produce have average tolerancing of +/-0.0005" with CNC
ground items +/-0.0002" We have been in business for 45 years and are known
for ultra precision work.
The key is, I'm doing the setup for myself and can make more at that time. IM
not looking to make money, just not HAPPY with the LX performance. And for
cost could cut maybe two hundred at most!
NOT looking to start a business at this!
As an approximation cost would run about $300 to $400 per matching set of
bull & worm. Possibly less, just haven't had time to cost out.
