While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Hey Neal,

Try this: with power off, R.A. lock loosely tightened, slowly rotate the
scope around the east and west axis. do this several times. Hopefully, this
will spread the lubricant along the gear and solve your problem. If not, you
will have to pull the scope off the mount, remove the bottom plate and
manually apply grease to the gear. If it comes to that, unlock the r.a. so
the scope won't move but the gear will rotate while you grease it up. See
Doc G's site for grease recommendations.
