While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

I have discovered a potential problem with running the AO7 via CCD OPS while
running another program at the same time on the same computer. While running
The Sky in the background I commanded the AO7 to exercise the mirror. Those
familiar with the unit know the buzzing sound the mirror makes. In this case
the buzzing was interrupted maybe once or twice a second with what I will
call a stutter, like the sound of a V8 (oh yeah, this is 1998 -- V6--) with
a miss. To make a long story a little shorter, I found that if I closed The
Sky then the stutter went away. I contacted SBIG and was told that this
situation could somewhat affect the operation of the AO7. The thought was
that a few corrections here or there might be missed. SBIG told me that a
faster CPU would probably not make any difference. I feel that running these
two programs at the same may be quite common. It sure would be nice to be
able to quantify the problem (if it is one). Has this issue been discussed
before? BTW it is a 486 DX 100 notebook,win95,16meg ram,The Sky ver 4. I
suppose next I will test on my P233 desktop.
