I would not recommend setting up on grass if you care much about pointing
accuracy. The tripod legs WILL settle into the grass as the night wears on
and you WILL have to realign.
I've had a little experience with the Celestron anti-vibration pads (sold
by Orion for about $50 per set of three). They work amazingly well. Cut
the damping time of my setup in half (when setup on hard asphalt). (But
they won't restore your pointing accuracy in spongy grass.)
