While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

For several nights, Pittsburgh has had the unusual treat of
clear skies and warm temperatures. In the last two, we also
had beautiful passes of Mir, always on schedule, and
graceful in its passing. Grabbing my binoculars, I stayed
out for an extra hour or so, when.....

At 8:45, a fireball appeared. It started about 50 degree
elevation in the
NNW and travelled straight East. It quickly gained a
magnitude of at least
-2, grew a tail of over 15 degrees, and then broke into 4 to
6 pieces
before fading. All three observers agreed that it had a
warm gold color with
possible hint of red toward the end. It was quite a sight
to behold. Don't
the heavens open up their splendor to us in the most diverse
and beautiful
ways. Anyone else glimpse this little marvel on the East
Coast?

Clear sky wishes to one and all

Jim, in Pittsburgh (hey, it was clear...what can I
say?!?)
