While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

In a message dated 98-04-03 18:39:51 EST, you write:

Paul,

I originally used the NGF focusser, before going to the NGF-S focusser.

On *mine*, I found that:

1. It really didn't get enough power from the outlet on my LX-200 to always be
able to drive the focusser. This was especially true after having tightened
the focussing knob down tight enough to eliminate excess mirror slop between
the focuser and mirror.

2. It seemed to very precisely start and stop when told to.

3. The physical obstruction wasn't too bad, except for when I was doing off-
axis guiding and the guider needed to be anywhere near that area. Then, it
was a problem.

4. With it mounted, of course, there was no way to do manual focussing.

5. It was reliable, with the exceptiion of the items mentioned.

6. It was well built, etc. but I can only add that I was *very* pleased with
the "upgrade" I made from it to the SGF-S. I all but eliminated what I
assumed was mirror slop, but was actually looseness within the focussing screw
mechanism.

I sure wouldn't want to go back, now that I'm here. <G>

For what it's worth.

<< How much does it interfere with smooth manual focusing?
How precisely does it start/stop when used with the scope focuser outlet?
Does it present a large physical obstruction (ie., how easily can you still
reach the focus knob)?
Reliability?
Construction, fit, finish?
