I do not know when they started to protect the keypad. If you have had no
trouble it is probably luck. On the other hand actual damage may be rare. If
you do hot plug, you should do it fast. :-) I cannot recomment hot plugging
any electronics unless it is specifically designed to be hot plugged. The
problem is usually with the power cables and the keypad carries power from the
control box to the kaypad.
