Subject: OT:Mirror Edge

I am just curious about something. I always got the impression that the
mirror surface went right to the edge of the mirror. When I look at the
mirror of my LX50 I notice that there is maybey 2-3mm worth of non mirrored
glass which may or may not bevel downwards from the edge of the mirrored
surface. This extra surface is more pronounced at one side of the mirror
and gradually tapers away to almost nothing by the time it gets to a
position diagonnally opposite the widest edge. Will this extra glass
affect my images or is this kind of thing normal? My second question is
about guiding eyepieces. I presume that if you want to manually guide ( I
know it's kind of old fashioned with you lot) you'd need a guiding ep with
plenty of eye relief so that you don't bang into the scope evry time you
looked. Which of the commonly used guiding eps give good eye relief?

Thanks

Gary
