While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
Ok we have 2 problems, both fixeable:
1) dec axis not working properly - all that is needed is to take apart the
dec axis and grease the bearings, reassemble and orthogonalize. The
p[rocedure I posted is at Ed Stewart's site. I had the same problem, it is
now fixed., Alternatively what about Jordan Blessings dec fix???
2) backlash in the ra axis, the ra gear can be adjusted and the backlash
removed, I have done this to mine.
My lx-50 tracks beautifully now, and I spent a total of about 6 hours
adjusting it. With an autoguider who needs PEC? The lx-50 is a bargain, but
perhaps needs a bittle of fiddling to get right. Please note that there is
even a web site devoted to fixing losmandy gm 11's that have a habit of not
arriving properly adjusted (and you even have to make a special tool to do
it!!!
Crap happens with everything, just ask me about my Panasonic vcr that took
3 returns to the service agents to be fixed under warranty, and died
completely 2 weeks after the warranty ran out - and was refused service.
At least you can adjust the mount, fixing a vcr is a whole different ball
game :)
cheers
Gary
