While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Robert:

The enhancement algorithm was changed from 6.3 to 6.4 in response to some
people (including some on this list) who wanted to default to showing as
much faint stuff as possible in the initial display. This was to allow
finding faint objects quickly. You can change the default enhancement by
changing the parameters in the [Display] section of the pictor.ini file:

DisplayLowPercent
DisplayHighPercent
ThresholdLowPercent
ThresholdHighPercent
ThresholdRangePercent
RangeCheckMinimum

If you make the DisplayLowPercent equal to the ThresholdLowPercent and
the DisplayHighPercent equal to the ThresholdHighPercent then the other two
parameters do not matter. To get back to the previous enhancement I would
suggest changing the low parameters to about 1.00 and the high to about
99.00 and see if this helps with your default display.

I am more concerned with your comment that using the arrow keys makes the
image all white. Does this happen with pressing a single key?? Are you
using 12 bit, 14 bit, 16 bit or 8 bit images??

Thanks,
Ralph
