While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Quick question...tonight after I used my scope and unkooked everything
(including
disconnecting the keypad), I perfomed a quick on/off withou the power
hooked up. Sure enough, the lights flickered on/off due to the built up cap
voltage. On subsequent tries, no more flickering. This means no more charge
and no more hot-plugging. Assuming this becomes part of my shut-down
sequence after unhooking the keypad and that this protects hot-plugging why
don't you all do this at the end of every session (just don't leave that
keypad plugged in)?

P.S.

No question this is poor design. In my industry you try to protect agaisnt
common human error problems.
