I have just started experimenting with using my laptop to control my LX200. I plugged the cable in, and tested it out with the
control-panel program that comes with DeepSky 2000. Everything seemed to be working fine, with the telescope tracking along, no
slew occurring or anything, so I went away for about 15 minutes to get a soda. When I came back, the RA was moving, alternating
between fast and slow. It must have just started because the DEC cable was not twisted around yet. On the laptop, I pressed the
stop button... It stopped until I let it go, then it started going again. I pressed the opposite direction button, and it started
spinning the opposite direction, but did not stop when I let go. I exited from the control program, but this did not change
anything. I then unplugged the RS232 cable from the laptop, and it still kept going. I went over to the scope, and the hand
controller had no control over the scope (N, S, E, or W all refused to change the motion). I turned off the power, and then turned
it back on. Everything worked fine (sans laptop connection which I have not tried yet). Keep in mind this is the RA drive, not the
DEC drive. Any ideas or similar experiences?
Thanks,
Adam
