I use AIP4WIN almost exclusively for processing CCD images. I have various
packages including MaximDL. I would hardly classify AIP4WIN as a beginners
package since it includes very powerful tools for astrometry, photometry and
image processing. There are some included tutorials which are ideal for
those just starting out and the price is very competitive. Good luck
