While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

I hope an LX10 tripod is considered on topic by others. It may not look very
advanced, but at least it's Meade!

How much does the LX10 tripod weigh? I can guess, but I'd like an exact
number if possible, or at least someone who owns one to throw it on their
bathroom scale.

How tall is it when folded? I know it's supposed to be 29" when opened, so I
could estimate this by the angle of the legs, but again would prefer someone
measuring theirs.

How sturdy is it? Can you stand on it without it wobbling?

I'm thinking of bolting either a A-P 600E equatorial head, Bogen 3263 geared
head, or professional video head to one, with maybe an additional 20-40
pounds of equipment and an unknown amount of counterweights, hopefully none.
So a total load of 40-100 pounds. Then I plan to take it to Africa and back,
all on a relatively baggage-restricted trip. The alternatives for this sort
of load are either heavier, longer, or much more expensive (e.g.,
professional 2-stage carbon fiber video tripod)

Thanks,

John
