While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

I have had no problems in focusing on all of the lines. I noted that
someone also is reporting a slight focusing problem, but I have not
experienced that. I have noted that the focusing seems to be a function of
how strongly the illumination of the grid lines is set. I have more success
with a higher illumination of the grid lines ( that has not presented a
problem so far, as I have been observing brighter objects ).

I have noted that on my eyepiece that the outer circle ( calibrated in
degrees ) is a bit larger than my pupil size, so I need to move my line of
sight a bit to see a given edge better.

Beware: If you are following the instructions for the astrometric eyepiece,
it states that a person is to time the drift of a star at zenith. NOT so.
The timing should be made on a star at ( plus or minus a couple of
arc-minutes ) of zero declination.

I have used my timing to infer the spacing of the scale lines. For the 0-50
scale I computed the actual length of the scale to be 0.23 inches ( 5.90
mm ). I would be interested in the results of your calibration.

My astrometric eyepiece has been very useful. I have done the needed
calibration, then used trig to compute the diameter of Jupiter, Saturn, and
Saturn's rings. I got good results ( compared to reference material in
Norton's and the web ).

Subject: [M]: MA12 Illuminated reticle eyepiece

I just received a new Meade MA12 illuminated reticle astrometric eyepiece.
The EP has a helical focuser, but I am unable to completely focus the
reticle. At 'best' focus, if I hold my eye just right some, but not all, of
the reticle lines are clear. The rest have more of a blurred rather than out
of focus appearance. Is this normal, or do I have a defective unit? Thanks,

Nick
