While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Alan, thanks for the advice, those articles are very informative and useful.
I actually did have a semi-clear night last night and dragged out the beast
to play with the autoguider. I didn't try it with the OAG yet, just through
the diagonal. Focusing was certainly a challenge, but I seemed to get
through that OK, but then I couldn't get the thing to calibrate. It would
fail part way through the calibration sequence. I was using the default
times for the calibration moves (2 seconds). After about an hour of trying
and cussing, I changed the times for the calibration moves to 1 second in
each axis, and it calibrated right away. So I guess the star was moving off
the chip during the calibration moves with 2 seconds. I was getting the star
as centered as possible (4,4 or thereabouts) before starting the calibration
in all cases.

By this time I had lost all the feeling in my extremities (it was about 15 F
out), so it was time to pack it in.

So my next step will be to try it with the OAG, that should be even more
interesting I would imagine.

Thanks again for the advice,
Kevin
