While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Hi,

I am experiencing some play in the dec axis of my 12" LX200. The play occurs
when the dec lock knob is in tightly locked position. I can then move the
scope a good 2 degrees in one direction and then back again. The scope does
not slop back and forth - in fact, I need to use a bit of force on the scope
to make it move. When locked, nothing on the dec motor side moves when I
make the scope move through the 2 degrees of play. The worm, gear, lock
knob, and brown clutch disc all remain perfectly motionless. There is no
play in the worm gear or wheel. However, the dec setting circle on the other
arm does move (that's how I determined the movement to be 2 degrees). I
called Meade, and they said to add another washer to the dec lock knob, but
that did not help. So, any ideas?? BTW, when I manually rotate the dec knob
(scope off) to move the scope up and down, the knob rotates very easily, and
there is no slop when rotating back & forth. I will greatly appreciate any
suggestions you can offer.
