While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

I was in the same position as you a while back, although I'll probably get my head bitten off by the perfectionists. I bought the Mead zoom, which gives you a nice range it's not a perfect tool but looking at other zoom eyepieces it's about the best there is and a lot off fun, until you get some more money in the cookie jar. A friend of mine with a 12" LX reached the same conclusion.

Only a suggestion get an extra label on your wife's cookie jar that say's 'Scope' and hope she doesn't notice.

Hi Mapuger's, Well I counted the money in my telescope cookie jar this weekend and I finally have enough to purchase my new telescope. I must have made a mistake because I found an extra $250, maybe my wife made a mistake and placed some money in my cookie jar instead of her jewelry shaped cookie jar next to mine. I don't think so, but I'm not going to ask so it's extra money. I'm going to make my own scopesaver tray so I don't need to spend $99 on that. I know that $250 isn't much, but it's all I have at the moment and I would like to use the scope for some casual observing while I learn to use it and save some more $$$. Is anyone out there that remembers being a budget, or the lean times, and can make a recommendation for a "cheap" add-on(s) to the base scope. I'll have a 26MM super plossl, what about a 13.8 Meade SWA or a Barlow? You guy's that have Tele Vue Panoptics and Nagler eyepieces must be rich, If I could just win the lottery I too could own three or four Tele Vue eyepieces.

Thanks for any help you can give a new user.
