While you're here, how about checking out the

Well, in my short experience in Tucson, I'd argue that the desert areas are
quite good for astronomy, especially in the nearby mountains. The skies are
clear at night something like 300 days per year. It definitely rains here,
especially for a couple of months in the summer (monsoon season). Most of the
time, the air is very dry. Of course, it can be dusty at times, but I've
found it to not be so bad. In fact, the dust clears out very nicely after a
good hard rain.
If the desert is so over rated, I wonder why they've built so many
observatories both here and in other desert regions of the world. Actually,
the professional observatories are usually built on mountain tops but there
are several in desert regions in the world.
Just my opinion, of course.
John
