While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Thanks all for the replies. The cable that I'm using came with the STAR 2000
module that I got from Starlight Express. It did work initially. I've tested
the cable and it seems to be OK. I would hope that the port is not to blame
as I just paid Meade $75.00 to repair the power panel that the port is
located on. I was careful not to hot plug the cable after getting the panel
back from Meade.

What else in the scope could effect computer control? Meade talked about a
$150.00 "electronics repair". I'm not sure waht this entails. i think they
said i'd have to remove all electronics from the drive base and send them
back to the factory.

Micheal

I had this very same problem we kept testing the cable and it was fine me &
my son left it for a few days & came back to the problem refreshed & less
bad tempered. Started to check every thing again from the begining one of
the first things we found was the cable had been reversed testing worked
fine but we had read the diagram in the LX200 manual the wrong way and got
the pins reversed redid the plug & voila it worked.
hope this helps

Michael,

Before you tear anything apart, make darn sure your cabling is configured
correctly. If the RS232 cable you are using was purchased from Meade, then
you can look for problems elsewhere. If it is a cable you (or someone else)
built, that would be the first place to look for problems. I had the same
problems with ACP (and everything else I tried) and I swore up and down I
built the cable correctly - turned out I didn't. Any chance you can borrow
a cable that is known to work from someone nearby to you for a test?

If the cable has been checked and found to be workable, then check the
serial port on the LX. The port can be rendered useless by hot plugging so
that is a possibility. You can rewire one of the other ports but I am not
sure how to accomplish that task. Perhaps there are others who can help in
that respect.

Good luck,

Dave
