While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book

An alternative utilized on another group is to use
Krylon Ultra Flat Black spray paint and those long
foma tipped swabs you can get at Radio Shack.
That will work also, but I personally think that the flocking material is a
much better option. Krylon is indeed a dark black paint, but to me it seems
to have a reflective characteristic to it. In my opinion, this defeats the
purpose of doing anything at all. I also did a modification to the
secondary with flocking. When I set out to do the baffle, once I pulled off
the end cap on the rear of the OTA, I noticed if you look down the baffle
tube towards the front of the scope at just the right angle, you can
actually see out the corrector plate. This seems to me to be another likely
source of reflection in the baffle tube as any stray light will reflect at a
very low angle right into the eyepiece. My solution to this was to flock
the secondary mirror and extend the material about 1 1/2 inches from the
secondary housing. Now when I look up the baffle from the rear cell, no
matter what angle I look at, I see nothing but black !!
Hope this helps,
Chris Sauer
