Michael,
Focus on a power pole insulator at least 1 block away. Focus on one that the
sun is hitting and has a hot spot. Use the hot spot just as you would a star.
The guys at Pocono Mt. optics taught me how to do this and it works better
than all other methods I have tried.
Youy can get down to very high magnification and not lose the resolution as
you would at night. Even if it get very fuzzy you can still verify the
collimation.
When I first came home with the scope my wife was really thrilled to look
at a power pole down the street, we had 3 weeks of clouds.
Richard Maag
