While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Group,

Round 1 didn't go so well last night. I spent the better part of an hour
trying to figure out why my big round donut looked more like a cats eye.
Very elliptical and pointy on the sides. After much tweaking of bobs knobs
and frustration finally settling in, I unscrewed my JMI NGF-S to look inside
through the baffle tube to take a look. It was here I noticed the secondary
was way off, as I could only see just over half of the image, the other half
not making it down the tube unless I peered in at an angle. After about
another 15 minutes of tweaking, I was able to get my donut shaped image and
get a rough step 1 collimation like on Terry Thieraults website. By this
time I was so frustrated I packed it in without even trying any more
collimation efforts. I have just set up my scope and as darkness settles
in, I will once more give it another effort. I hope things go better this
evening. At least this will be a lesson well learned as collimation is an
essential aspect of owning an SCT. I will post my results after I come in
this evening.

Chris
